Origin of Name:  Founder, Nicholas Scherer from Germany, arrived in the United States in 1846 and in what is now Schererville in 1866.

Some History:  

Now referred to as the "Crossroads of the Nation," Schererville has long been the location where routes intersect:  once trails of Indians and settlers; now the modern "trails" of Highways 30 and 41.
