Gary man gets 60 years for robbing seniors

CROWN POINT | Rosa Deen watched her husband, Floyd, crumple to the ground late last year as they were robbed by two men outside their home.

"All I saw was the silver pistol ... a stream of blood out of his mouth like a fountain," the 77-year-old woman said, her voice trembling. "He went down, and I thought he was dead."

Floyd Deen, 73, said he was knocked in the head with the gun and lost several teeth. The couple were among those targeted in a series of thefts aimed at senior citizens in the region, police said.

Brandon Green, 22, was sentenced Thursday in Lake Criminal Court to 60 years in prison for his part in the robberies.

The Gary man pleaded guilty to four counts of felony robbery -- one count each in four separate cases, court records show.

He chose them because of what they looked like and their inability to fight back," Deputy Prosecutor Michelle Jatkiewicz said.

Green, Milo Joseph Walker Jr. and Landon Shaw, all Gary residents, were charged with multiple felonies -- including robbery, battery and carjacking -- in connection with at least 24 crimes in Chicago, Hammond, Calumet City, Burnham, Lansing and Dolton, court records state.

UPDATE

Embattled Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick was ordered released from jail on $50,000 bond Friday, only to be charged minutes later with assaulting a detective in a separate case.

In the latest set of charges, the mayor faces two counts of assaulting or obstructing a police officer in the furtherance of their duties. Each felony count brings up to 2 years in prison or a fine of $2,000.

Cox said Friday that he's never heard of a situation where a police officer trying to serve a subpoena was assaulted.

But Kilpatrick attorney Jim Thomas said his client did nothing of the sort.

Thomas told FOX News Kilpatrick only "gently escorted them off the porch" when they came with the subpoena.

Ex-Olympian Gets 21 Years in New York Rape Case

Image

NEW YORK — A former Olympic sprinter has been sentenced to 21 years in prison after pleading guilty to raping a woman in a New York park.

Prosecutors say 31-year-old Alvin Henry was dubbed the Lover's Lane Rapist for secretly recording a woman having sex in the park with her boyfriend. They say he followed the woman and threatened to show the video unless she had sex with him.

Henry was charged with attacking women in parks in Brooklyn and Queens. He pleaded guilty to a June 2007 attack on Wednesday.

Henry was a member of Trinidad and Tobago's 400-meter relay team in the 2000 Olympics.

A defense lawyer says Henry got caught up in a lot of things after someone introduced him to cocaine to give him an edge while training.

You know, while I realize we don't "own" our politicians, this very example of the above and also about the affair of Jesse Jackson, Michael Johnson, President Clinton, and most recently, what's his freaking name on the news last night and this morning, admitting an affair - while his wife, Elizabeth was going through remission...is what scares the hell out of me about the character of these individuals, whether politicians or top athletes, they send the message: Once they hit the all-time glory in their careers, they think it's just ok to go against morals and ethics, and just saying, "I take full responsibility for my actions," just doesn't cut it today.

Money is never enough - cheating on your spouse, whether you are a politician leading our country; a minister, a looked-up-to athlete, never is there enough for them...and there's absolutely no excuse in the world for these people to do what they do. They send messages to us, and then turn around and make babies, hurt their families, and lead the nation into more distrust.

Even Tammy Faye's husband wasn't immune. Jesse Jackson of all people, and they still turn to him.

This is why I fear Obama. At least Hillary faced it, through a vase, spouted it out, did what a normal wife would do...except she never really depended on Bill...instead, she took the opposite road, and she forgave, but she'll never forget.

I'm afraid that Obama is going to do the same thing...do something that will mislead us in the long run. I think it sucks that our politicians can't even keep their bananas in their pants. It's a sad day, with the lowest of the lowest doing what he did while his wife was recovering from cancer. Can't think of the dildo's name right now, but was running for president of the U.S.A-HOLE. As it is today, with the character and morals these idiots display.

It's ironic that this Detroit mayor led his city to believe it would change for the better....and now this. It's that way in every town, city, or whatever.

You want a job...ya gotta.....

Politics is not what it was in the old days...today, you have to know someone to get a job and then you need to kneel down to their "level."

It's really sickening. This mayor deserves to lie down in a pig pen the rest of his life, sleeping with pigs, and eating their slosh.

So do the rest of them. Even Farrakhan is a cheater - or was in his puppy days. They all lie once they get to the top.

Update AGAIN:

Mich. AG: Detroit mayor violated bail terms again

DETROIT - A prosecutor on Monday accused Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick of violating his bond in an assault case by spending time over the weekend with his sister, one of 11 witnesses listed by authorities.

Kilpatrick and Ayanna Kilpatrick were together at their mother's house Saturday, a day after he was released from jail for violating bond in a separate perjury case, said Doug Baker of the Michigan attorney general's office.

Senator Charged With Lying About Gifts
Alaska Republican Ted Stevens Faces Seven-Count Indictment For Alleged False Statements About Home Renovations

(CBS/AP) Sen. Ted Stevens, the longest-serving Republican senator and a figure in Alaska politics since before statehood, was indicted Tuesday on seven counts of failing to disclose thousands of dollars in services he received from a company that helped renovate his home.

Stevens, the first sitting U.S. senator to face federal indictment since 1993, has been dogged by a federal investigation into his home renovation project and whether he pushed for fishing legislation that also benefited his son, an Alaska lobbyist.

ARTIE THE TROLL

A reoccurring problem on this board goes like this:

1) Someone starts a post on a topic.

2) Someone responds and a discussion begins to develop.

3) Someone posts a stupid off topic comment.

4) Everyone forgets what the original discussion was about and the entire thread becomes a flame war.

I either have to delete the entire post or move it to the “open forum”.

Ideally the member who posted the off topic comment would have used restraint and not added their comment in the first place. However when this happens the most important thing I would like you all to do is to ignore the off topic comment and keep the conversation going.

Responding to the off topic comment only encourages the trolls to continue this behavior. Only by ignoring the trolls and not feeding them will they go away.
