You knew it was just a matter of time, didn't you?
The people planning on providing buses throughout the region are talking about the need for new taxes to pay for it.
Don't forget others are already eyeing the very same sorts of new taxes as part of "Hometown Mattwrs", a plan to ostensibly to lower property taxes. Just keep your eye on the bottom line here. Are we going to be literally nickle and dimed to death?

Funny that we already have a bus service for the needy through the Trustee's office, but now the politicos want us to sponsor a public bus service that most people could live without. And that's on top of all the school buses.

I have suggested just letting the school kids ride the city buses but of course that falls on deaf ears.

We need a bus tax, so all the people of LC, Porter county, LaPorte can enjoy each other!

Actually the township only provides transportation forr seniors and duisabled people. It also takes at least a few days to reserve a ride, and they someimes leave you stranded when the drivers go to lunch (all at the same time apparently) . THey also stop working at 2:30 PM, so you can see it is not a complete transportation service. As improbable as it seems, I wonder if it would not be cheaper too fund an adequate fleet of cabs or vans that could charge a bus-like fare to haul people around than to create a region-wide bus system.

We need bus taxes to end racial descrimnation in LC, LaPorte, and South Haven.

That makes no sense at all! Just having a bus to carry your welfare buddies around at public expense doesn't mean that you will magically get the money to move there.

The only discrimination goin' on is you want taxpayers to just give you everything. That discriminates against my right to keep the money I worked for.

WORK? What work do you do, Mirage when you are posting 24 hours a day? We NEED bus taxes to resolve racial differnces between New Haven(they have alot of racists there), CP, Valpo, etc..... Then and only then will racial hostility end. We need Bus Taxes! Vote for it!

if the county would simply match what gary, hammond, and ec already pay for their own bus service the entire county could have a pretty adequate service. the key is to run limited schedules...maybe hourly through most of the county...maybe a little more often (half hour) in some of the poorer, but densly populated areas.

the county could pay for its share by simply closing one of the sattelight buildings (courts) in either gary, hammond, or (my suggestion east chicago)

i wont say no to the idea of bus service out of hand. but it must be paid out of current revenues. not new ones.
