October 15, 2015-At a meeting of the Hessville Crime Watch tonight, Hammond Mayor Thomas McDermott announced that the City will be purchasing the former Wal-Mart location at 1828 165th Street. "This will be done with federal money" McDermott stressed. McDermott said there is $11M in federal money already set aside for the purchase and construction costs. The new facility will house an indoor soccer complex-something McDermott stressed would draw sports tourism to the City. More details on the project will be forthcoming in the coming days.
