INDIANAPOLIS | An Indiana House committee has backed changing state law so that the elected state schools superintendent would no longer automatically chair the State Board of Education.
Gee why didn't they do that when Tony "I left the state in shambles" Bennett was elected???? You know, I'm seeing that everywhere. In my wanderings from Austin to Boston and from Maine to the Great Plains, there is more collective head shaking and laughing at the Glenda Ritz tempest in a teapot than I can imagine there would be at a Chris Rock/Eddie Murphy (in his prime) comedy club double billing. Its really happening.
The real joke is that the only people who pretend to care about this non-affair are public employees and union gorillas. When you read the ramblings at the various on-line posting sites frequented by the NWI Intelligentsia, you find poorly written missives offered up by fork lift drivers, idle, entitled single mothers, teachers, city and county dregs, and retired union workers. During their twelve years of public education, none of these dummies ever dreamed about getting within four rooms of a math, biology, chemistry, or physics class but now they are act like they are all exercised about the way some school systems approach evolution or the Big Bang Theory. After being socially promoted out of their senior year of high school, they somehow found work with a local parks department, big box store, or hanging the same tire on a dreary assembly line for two decades. The only time they feign interest in anything other than alcohol, strip clubs, casino boats, and tobacco is when the heat may be turned up on the public education status quo.
Chuck, you with your Ball State babysitting degree should know better than anyone that it matters little which drone sits atop what office in the meaningless education bureaucracy. The only threat Tony Bennett posed to you was that you might be held accountable for your output. As long as NWI schools can keep the local Walmart stockrooms, fast food joints, and street departments staffed with functional illiterates, Lake County will remain off the radar screen of "the rest of the country".
