Business: Social legislation may be killing Indiana jobs
Quote:
Indiana businesses are becoming increasingly alarmed that the state's flurry of so-called "social legislation" may be damaging its business-friendly reputation and holding back job growth.

Quote:
said Indiana Chamber of Commerce President Kevin Brinegar.
"We are starting to look at the incumbent legislators and candidates," Brinegar said. "Are they focused on jobs and the economy or are they more focused on social issues?"

Jobs gained or lost from June 2010 through Oct. 2011:
Indiana: 7,700 jobs lost/ 0.28 percent decrease
Illinois: 69,900 jobs gained/ 1.24 percent increase
Michigan: 58,000 jobs gained/ 1.50 percent increase
Ohio: 75,700 jobs gained/ 1.50 percent increase
Kentucky: 25,200 jobs gained/ 1.42 percent increase

Illinois: 69,900 jobs gained???

The most corrupt state in the union!

Now I know why you believe a cross country pipeline will only create 1500 jobs...

The source is the US Bureau of Labor, not me...Also I have never commented on how many jobs may or may not be created building the pipeline. I was pointing out that the Repubs backward thinking on social issues are losing jobs in Indiana...ie: allowing people to bring guns to work or trying to pass an amendment to outlaw gay marriage...the business owners, who the repubs are supposedly so empathetic with, are saying that this type of hillbilly thinking is driving away the upper tier-type jobs...Maybe it is ok thinking for those that flip burgers or change oil, but it is not with business executives...

Not all republicans are as stupid & ignorant as the cons who post here. One of the reasons why Daniels didn't run is because on social issus he's not a bat-sh!t crazy lunatic extremist.

Nobody made that claim. The export pipeline would create 2,500-4,650 temporary jobs....and raise the price of gas in the midwest.

Indiana teachers colleges see drop in applications
Quote:
Applications to teacher colleges across Indiana have hit their lowest levels in at least five years as new laws and increased pressure on educators have deterred many from entering the field.

Quote:
Enrollment at Purdue's College of Education has fallen 23 percent over the past five years, while Ball State's Teachers College has seen a 32 percent decrease in applications since 2008. Indiana University's School of Education has seen a 20 percent drop in applications since 2008, and enrollment there is down 11 percent from last year.

Quote:
The decline in applications stems in large part from a wave of education changes that emerged from the 2011 Legislature.

...typical rethug thinking:
Quote:
"Our biggest critics are the ones who are making the most sweeping statements about failing schools, and they're the very same ones saying what we need to do to improve schools in this country is attract the best and brightest," said IU Dean of Education Gerardo Gonzales. "I don't think they understand the decisions they're making are having the reverse effect."
