With the Uran Fire Territory tax, the Uran Bo Jackson Tax, the School Tax, the Library Tax, the new "wheel tax" and the assessor stating taxes are going up an additional $200-$300 to meet county needs, people are being taxed to death.

This adds up to over a $1,300.00 increase in taxes on a $250,000 home.

And a car that uses 1,000 gallons of gas per year will add another $1,500 to $2,000 due to the increased price of gas

This will stress the taxpayers and knock down the value of homes.

NO NEW TAXES!!!

That is not true what-so-ever! It is the fault of the state house..

The GOP rides in on a white horse to save the day with $150,000,000 for the schools.

Schools to benefit from improved state revenue forecast

INDIANAPOLIS | An increase in projected state revenue over the next two years will permit Indiana to spend an additional $150 million on education, with a portion of the funds dedicated to making full-day kindergarten available statewide.
The details of the state's updated revenue forecast will be released later today, but Republican Gov. Mitch Daniels, House Speaker Brian Bosma, R-Indianapolis, and Senate President David Long, R-Fort Wayne, already announced a portion of the expected funds will be spent on local schools.
Approximately $40 million will be used to make full-day kindergarten available at any school that wants it. Some 75 percent of Indiana schools currently offer full-day kindergarten, but limited funds prevented statewide availability.
"I've been eager to finish that job," Daniels said.
Between $5 million and $10 million is slated to be used for teacher merit raises based on classroom performance, while the remainder of the money will go into the school funding formula for distribution to all Indiana schools.
State lawmakers currently working on Indiana's 2012-13 budget had proposed keeping education spending at the 2011 level of $6.2 billion. That amount includes a $300 million annual cut to local schools that Daniels imposed in 2009 to keep the state's budget balanced in the face of declining state revenue.
With an improving economy boosting sales and income tax revenue for the state, Bosma said he was eager to replace some of the money cut when state revenue was poor.
"Our first priority was budget integrity and adopting a responsible budget without increasing taxes on Hoosier families," Bosma said. "Investing in K-12 education, especially early education opportunities, has always been our caucus' next most important goal."

DEFICIT SHRINKS FROM LAST YEAR'S RECORD.... Deficit hawks probably won't be pleased with the total, but they should at least be pleased with the direction.
The federal government budget deficit shrank in fiscal 2010, but the big gap was only $122 billion lower than the record high set a year ago.

Quote:
The deficit amounted to 8.9% of gross domestic product. That's down from fiscal 2009, when the deficit of $1.416 trillion was 10.0% of GDP.

Whatta bunch of hilljacks, ghetto-billies, and barrio-billies! THREE casinos from which the proceeds are supposed to go to infrastructure and you bumpkins still can't make it work. Is there anyone available to flee the county and slow down this extreme proposal or must this subsidy to keep the friends and families of local politicians be rushed through with all due haste?

I wonder if that county highway department stooge made a mistake by putting the "revenue enhancement"
scheme into terms every idiot in Lake County can understand: cigarettes. You can mess with the average LC resident's wife, husband, daughter, car....whatever....just keep your hands off of two things: their liquor supply and their cigarettes. Five fewer packs of cigarettes per year will have 450,000 people jonesing and shooting at each other in parking lots and at stoplights!

As with all proposals for "revenue enhancement", the ventroliquist acts have started and the echo chambers have been switched on. "It'll only cost "X" number of dollars per day, week, month, minute, hour, etc." (whose counting?). ""Y" other Indiana counties already have this tax in place, so why not Lake County?"

How many other Indiana counties have three casinos? How many other Indiana counties border on a major urban center (sorry, Indianapolis and Louisville are big, but just not in the same league as Chicago)? How many Indiana counties have sent more than half-a-hundred officials off to jail in the last 20-30 years? How many other Indiana counties have leaders that scrambled to Indianapolis to blunt the full effects of the tax caps? How many Indiana counties have leaders whose fathers owe in excess of $100,000 in taxes on their real estate holdings?

You rubes are simply hopeless.

Another example, highest tax rate in Marion County (Indianapolis) 4.63, highest tax rate in Lake County (Gary by itself) 6.89 and nothing in Lake County compairs to the size and needs of Marion County.

Well Public, it would appear the real problem isn't with the elected officials but the ignorant people of Crown Point! Over 60% of the voters in Crown Point don't feel they are being taxed enought so voted in favor of more taxes. What message does this send to the politician's?

It tells politicians that U.S. 30 is not the barrier to north county stupidity that many thought it was. Has this new tax, whatever it is, been hailed as a "courageous move" by elected officials and newspaper editors yet?
