Obamanomics: Consumer Confidence “Unexpectedly” Plummets In January
Image
Doesn't have the slightest clue how to improve the economy, just arrogance.

(Bloomberg) — Confidence among U.S. consumers unexpectedly dropped in January as gasoline prices picked up and more Americans said jobs were hard to get.

The Conference Board’s confidence index fell to 61.1 from a revised 64.8 reading in the prior month, figures from the New York-based private research group showed today. The median forecast of economists surveyed by Bloomberg News called for a rise to 68. The figure was lower than the most pessimistic projection.

Job growth has fallen short of the pace required to drive bigger gains in wages, at the same time higher fuel costs threaten to strain household budgets and limit spending. The report showed fewer Americans expect their incomes to increase in the next six months, and they pared plans to purchase cars and homes.

Sentiment data indicate “just how fragile households believe the economic expansion is,” Steven Wood, president of Insight Economics LLC in Danville, California, said before the report. It is “largely the result of ongoing weakness in the labor and housing markets as well as the political bickering in Washington and on the campaign trail.”

Obama Peddles BS Unemployment Report, Says “Recovery Is Speeding Up” – Then Blames Bush Anyway

President Obama saluted “more good news about our economy” today, and made an election-year argument that “we can’t go back to the policies that led to the recession.”

Obama spoke at an Arlington, Va., fire house just hours after the Labor Department reported that the economy added 243,000 new jobs in January, and the unemployment rate dropped to 8.3%.

While “these numbers will go up and down” in the coming months, Obama told firefighters that “the economy is growing stronger — the recovery is speeding up.”

To that end, Obama urged Congress to extend the payroll tax cut that expires at the end of February, and not let the issue get bogged down in politics.

“Don’t muck it up,” Obama said to Congress.

Obama export adviser exports jobs
Daily Caller, by Neil Munro

A firm overseen by one of President Barack Obama’s trade advisers has just announced plans to export 149 white-collar jobs — including numerous high-tech jobs — to an India-based info-tech firm.

The outsourcing announcement came during an election campaign in which Obama’s allies frequently lash former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney for supposedly exporting jobs, and only two weeks after Obama showed he had little understanding of outsourcing in the high-tech sector.

“I don’t know your husband’s specialty, but I can tell you there’s a huge demand around the country for engineers,” he told the wife of a laid-off engineer in Fort Worth, Texas. Obama then volunteered himself to find a job for the engineer, who was laid off three years ago.

Some of the 149 Supervalu workers whose jobs are being outsourced will be hired by the Indian firm to assist IT workers in Guadalajara, Mexico, and in Bangalore, India, according to a Supervalu memo described Feb. 7 by the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

Matthew Rubel is a board member of Supevalu Inc., the Minnesota-based firm that is laying off the workers and exporting the jobs, under a contract with Tata Consulting announced Sept. 14, 2010.

Rubel is also a member of Obama’s Advisory Committee for Trade Policy and Negotiations. He’s a very successful retail executive, and was appointed to the 33-member committee in Sept. 15, 2010, along with several other industry executives.

Welcome To The Recovery: 85% of Small Businesses Not Hiring

Gallup: “U.S. small-business owners who aren’t hiring — 85% of those surveyed — are most likely to say the reasons they are not doing so include not needing additional employees; worries about weak business conditions, including revenues; cash flow; and the overall U.S. economy. Additionally, nearly half of small-business owners point to potential healthcare costs (48%) and government regulations (46%) as reasons. One in four are not hiring because they worry they may not be in business in 12 months.”

Chutzpah: Obama Touts S.C. Boeing Plant That His NLRB Tried To Shut Down On Behalf of The Unions

Image
Un-friggen-believable.

Quote:
President Obama rallied with union workers at a Boeing plant in Washington, but he praised the manufacturing conducted by Boeing in South Carolina, even though his National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) tried to close the South Carolina plant at the behest of the Washington union workers.

“This company is a great example of what American manufacturing can do in a way that nobody else in the world can do it,” Obama told the assembled workers this afternoon at the Everett, Wash., Boeing plant. ”And the impact of your success, as I said, goes far beyond the walls of this plant. Every Dreamliner that rolls off the assembly line here in Everett supports thousands of jobs in different industries all across the country. Parts of the fuselage are manufactured in South Carolina and Kansas,” Obama noted before mentioning factories in other states.

Gallup: Unemployment Rate Jumps To 9.0%, Underemployment To 19.0%
Image

Quote:
PRINCETON, NJ — The U.S. unemployment rate, as measured by Gallup without seasonal adjustment, is 9.0% in mid-February, up from 8.6% for January. The mid-month reading normally reflects what the U.S. government reports for the entire month, and is up from 8.3% in mid-January.

Gallup also finds 10.0% of U.S. employees in mid-February are working part time but want full-time work, essentially the same as in January. The mid-February reading means the percentage of Americans who can only find part-time work remains close to its high since Gallup began measuring employment status in January 2010.

Underemployment, a measure that combines the percentage of workers who are unemployed with the percentage working part time but wanting full-time work, is 19.0% in mid-February. This is higher than the 18.7% recorded for January, and is up significantly compared with January’s mid-month reading of 18.1%.
