Menards must be so proud - a Human Resources employee with no health insurance:

Fatal crash with fuel tanker follows battle with cancer
'It's beyond devastating' for woman who lost her husband
Comments

November 29, 2010

BY CARRIE NAPOLEON, POST-TRIBUNE CORRESPONDENT
CROWN POINT -- Family members are mourning the death of a former Lakes of the Four Seasons man critically injured after a gasoline tanker truck rear-ended his sport utility vehicle while he was on his way to work Nov. 19.

Ryan Kelly was headed to Menards in Terre Haute at around 7:30 a.m. that Friday, when the driver of the big rig crashed into his vehicle while he was stopped at a light, pushing him through an intersection and crushing the 25-year-old behind the wheel. Kelly had remained in a coma until Thursday. He died shortly after being placed in hospice.

The driver of the fuel tanker, Timothy Clark, 50, of Franklin, was charged with operating while intoxicated resulting in serious bodily injury and criminal recklessness resulting in serious bodily injury after testing positive for cocaine. Those charges may be upgraded, according to Terre Haute police. Clark told police he had fallen asleep at the wheel.

Kelly, who will be laid to rest Wednesday, had just celebrated his one-year wedding anniversary with his bride Jill (nee Paloncy), also formerly of Lakes of the Four Seasons. The couple were married Oct. 24, 2009.

Their first year as newlyweds had been a difficult one. Jill Kelly has been battling thyroid and ovarian cancer, and Ryan had been at her side throughout the ordeal, said Sharon Paloncy of Lakes of the Four Seasons, Jill's mother. The young bride went through three cancer surgeries in one year.

"This was her soul partner," Paloncy said of the young couple, who moved to Terre Haute after college so Ryan could take a job in human resources at Menards. Jill teaches pre-kindergarten in Vigo County.

Paloncy said the young couple had been struggling to keep up with $1,500 a month student loan payments and doctors' bills for Jill's cancer treatment -- neither had insurance -- when tragedy struck the newlyweds again.

"It's beyond devastating," Paloncy said.

Paloncy said her daughter does not want to continue her cancer treatments now that Ryan is gone and the family is trying to be a support for her.

"How much stress can a 26-year-old take?" she said.

She described the young couple as "two peas in a pod" who did everything together.

"It's killing me to see my daughter hurting. It's a nightmare," Paloncy said.

Anne Casbon, a family friend, said a "Benefit for the Kelly Family" fund to assist with bills and now the burial of Ryan has been set up with Centier Bank. Donations will be accepted at any Centier Bank branch office or can be mailed to Centier Bank, 8020 E. 109th Ave., Crown Point, IN 46307-8613.

This is what Obamacare should help - a young couple with two jobs and no insurance!

You can thank obamacare for the lack of insurance. Many employers are dropping coverage, as it is more financially wise to pay a penalty, than supply coverage to their employees or their dependents. SEIU is just one example. Many school systems are also dropping, or considering dropping, medical coverage for employees dependents.
Furthermore, the welfare sector of society is starting to take their hits for their support of obama and his socialist/communist agenda. Starting January 1, 2011, there will be drastic service cuts in the Indiana Medicaid/Hoosier Healthwise program. A relative who received their notice today, shared it with me. All hospital admissions must have pre-approval, with the exception of true emergency admittance, or in the case of childbirth. For those adults covered under the program, there is now a $600 dollar limit on the dental coverage per year, all treatment included, with only actual emergency visits excluded from the yearly limit. Eyeglasses, which were replaced every two years, will now be replaced every five years. Children are exempt from the eyeglass and dental limit. Treatments and therapies for adults are also limited to 25 per year, which includes speech therapy, physical therapy, and many others. There is quite a list of limitations on this program, most of which, at this time, are affecting mainly the adults who are covered. Happy New Year.

Life is full of struggles.

This young woman was not denied care due to her lack of insurance and as a matter of fact, if she had been in any other country she would most likely have died from her cancer already.

ObamaCare Rewards Friends, Punishes Enemies
Wall Street Journal, by Karl Rove

Aprimary task for the new Republican House majority is to undo as many of the pernicious effects of ObamaCare that it can. One of these effects is the spectacle of employers going hat-in-hand to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for waivers from some of the law's more onerous provisions.

In September, HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius began granting waivers to companies that provided workers "mini-med" coverage—low-cost plans with low annual limits on what the insurance will pay out. This followed announcements by some employers that they would have to drop these plans because they did not meet the new health law's requirement that 85% of premium income be spent on medical expenses.

By early December, HHS had granted 222 such waivers to provide mini-med policies for companies including AMF Bowling and Universal Forest Product, as well as 43 union organizations. According to the department's website, the waivers cover 1,507,418 employees, of which more than a third (525,898) are union members. Yet unionized workers make up only 7% of the private work force. Whatever is going on here, a disproportionately high number of waivers are being granted to administration allies.

A very good article on the so-called repeal movement of the repubs...
Health-Law Repeal Hardly a Panacea for CEOs' Concerns
Quote:
Newly emboldened Republicans want to repeal the Obama health law, a symbol of all that they—and many voters—dislike about President Barack Obama and congressional Democrats' approach to governing. If you were a business executive and employer, would you really favor repeal?

Quote:
President Helen Darling, a former corporate-benefit administrator and Republican Senate staffer, says about executives who call for repeal: "If they really understood it, they wouldn't."
"I don't think we'll get a better solution in the U.S. in our lifetime" she said. "If it gets repealed, or gutted, we'll have to start over and we'll be worse off."

Quote:
Talking about repeal of the health law may be a winning political strategy for Republicans, a rare way to please both workers and business executives. As long as they don't actually succeed in doing it.

Three SEIU Locals--Including Chicago Chapter--Waived From Obamacare Requirement
Cybercast News Service

(CNSNews.com) – Three local chapters of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU)--whose political action committee spent $27 million supporting Barack Obama in the 2008 presidential election--have received temporary waivers from a provision in the Obamacare law.

The three SEIU chapters include the Local 25 in Obama’s hometown of Chicago.

The waivers allow health insurance plans to limit how much they will spend on a policy holder’s medical coverage for a given year. Under the new health care law, however, such annual limits are phased out by the year 2014. (Under HHS regulations, annual limits can be no less than $750,000 for 2011, no less than $1.25 million in 2012 and no less than $2 million in 2013.)

Unions make up 40 percent of employees exempted from Obamacare
Washington Examiner, by David Freddoso

Yesterday, the Deparment of Health and Human Services announced it had granted more than 500 new waivers to Obamacare's requirement that health plans have annual limits of no less than $750,000. This annual limit requirement climbs to $1.25 million next year and then to $2 million. The reason these exemptions from the law are needed is that Obamacare forces all health insurance consumers to over-insure themselves and pay high premiums as a result. Without the waivers, many companies, non-profits and unions would simply drop their health plans.

White House quietly exempts pampered politicos from Obamacare.

Here is a great 9 minute video explaining the new health care law and its' ramifications: (Produced the the Kaiser Family Foundation)

Judge Rules Health Care Law Is Unconstitutional
Published January 31, 2011
| FoxNews.com

A U.S. district judge on Monday threw out the nation's health care law, declaring it unconstitutional because it violates the Commerce Clause and surely reviving a feud among competing philosophies about the role of government.

Judge Roger Vinson, in Pensacola, Fla., ruled that as a result of the unconstitutionality of the "individual mandate" that requires people to buy insurance, the entire law must be declared void.

"I must reluctantly conclude that Congress exceeded the bounds of its authority in passing the act with the individual mandate. That is not to say, of course, that Congress is without power to address the problems and inequities in our health care system. The health care market is more than one-sixth of the national economy, and without doubt Congress has the power to reform and regulate this market. That has not been disputed in this case. The principal dispute
has been about how Congress chose to exercise that power here,"
Vinson wrote.

This is the kind of political gamesmanship that gives politics a bad name. The House GOP has taken a a sliver of a phrase and twisted it beyond all meaning. Elmendorf never said 800,000 jobs would be destroyed, and he certainly did not mean to suggest that. Given that Republicans have routinely faulted the CBO for its estimates and assumptions on the health care bill, they should be ashamed of immediately embracing this particular aspect of the CBO's analysis.
