$5 Trillion And Change
Wall Street Journal

The political strategy behind Obamanomics was always simple: Call for "stimulus" to rescue the economy, run up the debt with the biggest spending blitz in 60 years, and then when the deficit explodes call for higher taxes. The Congressional Budget Office annual review released yesterday shows this is all on track.

CBO reports that annual spending over the Obama era has climbed to a projected $3.6 trillion this fiscal year from $2.98 trillion in fiscal 2008, or more than 20%. The government spending burden has averaged 24% of GDP, up from an average of about 20%. This doesn't include the $2 trillion tab for ObamaCare.

All of this has increased the federal debt by about $5 trillion in a mere four years. Thanks to higher revenues, the federal deficit will decline to $1.08 trillion in 2012, or 7% of GDP. But that is still the highest deficit since 1946—except for the previous three years. In other words, the four years of the Obama's Presidency will mark the four highest years in spending and deficits as a share of the economy since Harry Truman sat in the Oval Office.

January Jobs Report: Solid Growth
Quote:
For the first time in several years, we have an unambiguously positive employment report. The U.S. economy added 243,000 payroll jobs in January 2012 and the unemployment rate fell to 8.3 percent. One month does not a trend make, but the past several months of data show a labor market that is recovering, and an economy that has been accelerating even as fears of a double-dip recession rose.

Quote:
Let's look inside the data:
Positive payroll number.
The conservative recovery continues.
The trend remains the friend.
Household Survey Improves.

Raw Jobs Numbers Tell Very Different Story

RUSH: So all you people that are finding jobs out there, isn't it great, isn't it fabulous? Everywhere you look people are getting hired. You can see it in the unemployment number. Why, do you know we created seasonally adjusted 200-some-odd-thousand jobs? Do you know what the raw number is? From the Bureau of Labor Statistics' own table, the raw number, before there's any seasonal adjustment, the raw number is that from December to January, we lost two million jobs.

Don't ask me about seasonal adjustment. I've been trying to figure this out all morning, and I can't. But the raw numbers, 130 million jobs in December, 128 million jobs in January, give or take a couple hundred thousand either side. But when the seasonal adjustments take place, there is a gain of 200, whatever they're reporting, 33,000 jobs. Now, what's happening is the labor force is shrinking. There are fewer jobs. Even the Drive-Bys, so excited, they can't wait to report the good news, but even they are reporting that the labor force participation rate, number of jobs out there, is continuing to dwindle,
and most of the jobs being created are low wage.

But none of that's gonna matter. None of it's gonna matter. I don't want to be an "I told you so," but way back last year, even recently toward the end of last year, this being an election year, I predicted. But you knew. You knew what was gonna happen when this year started. You knew that the statistics are that no president has ever been reelected when the unemployment rate's over 8%. So guess what it's gonna be by the time we get to Election Day? It's just that simple.

11.5% unemployment
Daily Mail, by Don Surber

The new employment numbers are out and they show that unemployment fell to 8.3% in January. Woo-hoo. We added “243,000″ jobs, right?

Not exactly.

From Zero Hedge:

“In January, the number of Part Time workers rose by 699K, the most ever, from 27,040K to 27,739K, the third highest number in the history of this series. How about Full time jobs? They went from 113,765 to 113,845. An 80K increase. So the epic January number of 141.6 million employed, which rose by 847K at the headline level: only about 10 % of that was full time jobs: surely an indicator of the resurgent US economy… in which employers can’t even afford to give their workers full time employee benefits.”

I am not that pessimistic. From little acorns, oak trees grow. But this also may reflect a reluctance to add full-time staff that gets you in Obamacare trouble. If Obamacare gets the Supreme Court Seal of Approval, look for employees to be replaced by private contractors throughout the USA to avoid an expensive mandate.

That said, Zero Hedge laid out the case in another post for putting the unemployment rate at a more realistic 11.5%.[color=#BF0000][/b
] [b]The participation rate has dropped to a 30-year low.

Long-Term Unemployment
Remains High, Millions
Leave Labor Force

Cybercast News Service, by Matt Cove
r

Despite a January jobs report that saw slightly stronger private sector job growth than in recent months, long-term unemployment remains at record high levels and revised statistics show that another 1.2 million have left the labor force. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the number of long-term unemployed – those out of work for 27 weeks or more, was unchanged at 5.5 million in January, near its record of 6.7 million in April 2010.

BREAK

The number of people not in the labor force – those who are unemployed and not looking for work – rose from 86.7

You can thank the policies of the republicons for that...Their attacks of the working class are leading to lower paying jobs...right to work...stripping collective bargaining from employees...Did you really think that these policies would increase the pay of workers???

Chrysler to add 1,800 jobs at crucial Belvidere plant

BELVIDERE, Ill. – Chrysler said today it plans to add 1,800 jobs at its Belvidere Assembly Plant to build the Dodge Dart this year.

Quote:
About 2,700 currently work at the plant, assembling the Jeep Compass and Jeep Patriot. When the workers are added, it will be the first time since 2008 that the plant will operate three shifts.

He sure did, especially Tuurd Blossom. Poor Karl, his lace panties are all up in a bunch:

Karl Rove ‘offended’ by Clint Eastwood’s Chrysler ad
By Rachel Weiner, Updated: Monday, February 6, 11:52 AM
A Chrysler ad aired during the Super Bowl Sunday night has inspired ire among some Republicans and admiration among some Democrats — with both sides seeing a political message that boosts President Obama.

In an ad touting the resurgence of the American auto industry, Clint Eastwood declared that it’s “halftime in America and our second half’s about to begin,” which could be interpreted as a reference to Obama’s second term.

The ad’s themes seem to echo Obama’s own argument that his administration brought the auto industry back from the brink of disaster.

“They almost lost everything,” Eastwood says of Detroit. “But we all pulled together. Now Motor City is fighting again.”

“I was, frankly, offended by it,” said Karl Rove on Fox News Monday. “I'm a huge fan of Clint Eastwood, I thought it was an extremely well-done ad, but it is a sign of what happens when you have Chicago-style politics, and the president of the United States and his political minions are, in essence, using our tax dollars to buy corporate advertising.”

(Most — but not all, if you include the loan made under the Bush Administration — of the money loaned to Chrysler has been paid back.)

“Agh. WTH?” tweeted conservative commentator Michelle Malkin. “Did I just see Clint Eastwood fronting an auto bailout ad???”

Scenes from union protests in Wisconsin were used in the ad, but the messages on the signs were blurred out, perhaps to avoid the very politicization some Republicans see.

Both David Axelrod, Obama’s campaign manager, and Dan Pfeiffer, the White House communications director, tweeted praise for the spot.

Eastwood’s own politics are ambiguous. He was the nonpartisan mayor of Carmel, Calif., for two years. George H.W. Bush considered asking Eastwood to be his running mate in 1988. While he has supported some Democrats in California; Eastwood said in 2011 that he couldn’t recall ever voting for a Democratic presidential candidate. In 2008, he supported Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.).

About the same time, he told GQ that he no longer identified with the GOP: “[O]ver the years, I realized there was a Republican philosophy that I liked. And then they lost it. And libertarians had more of it.”
