Facebook hired Burson-Marsteller, a PR company owned by WPP, Sir Martin Sorrell’s group, to place negative stories about Google in American press outlets.Since the admission, Burson Marsteller has terminated its contract with Facebook. Executives from Burson-Marsteller approached a well known blogger, Christopher Soghoian, who blogs about security, urging him to investigate Google’s privacy policy, and in exchange they would help him get the piece published on influential sites such as The Huffington Post and The Washington Post. Prosecutors: Bragging on Facebook leads to charges
Image

By Jason Meisner
Tribune reporter

A Chicago woman was charged with aggravated battery after bragging on Facebook how she hit a woman in the face with a glass during an argument at a Near North bar last month, prosecutors said today.

The incident occurred April 22 at The Leg Room, 7 W. Division St. Ruth Ramirez, 26, was quarreling with the 29-year-old victim –- whom she did not know --when she smashed a glass into the victim’s face and fled, prosecutors said.

The victim was treated at St. Mary of Nazareth Hospital for multiple lacerations to her left eye and cheek, according to court records.

The next day, the victim’s friend was on Facebook when she noticed a comment Ramirez had posted bragging about the incident, Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney Erin Antonietti said. She showed the post to the victim, who identified her attacker by the photograph posted on the profile.

The victim called police and gave them the information, and an investigative alert was issued. Ramirez turned herself in at the Belmont Area headquarters on Tuesday, records show.

Ramirez, of the 3700 block of West Division Street, has two misdemeanor shoplifting convictions on her record, but no history of violent offenses, records show.

Judge Adam Bourgeois Jr. set bail at $100,000.

Facebook upgrade spurs
fears of political bias

Daily Beast, by Neil Munro

Facebook’s managers are deploying a new software upgrade that will dismantle myriad groups of like-minded political activists unless they get a special software-key from the company. But Facebook manager are providing very limited information about which groups are being favored with the new key, prompting some activists to complain about possible political favoritism among Facebook managers, and many other activists to experiment with techniques and tricks to get the needed upgrade-key. “Who is being given the upgrade?” asked Pamela Geller, the New York organizer of a 15,000-member group opposed to Islamist political groups.

Facebook page calls for beating Saudi women drivers

Agence France-Presse

A campaign has been launched on Facebook calling for men to beat Saudi women who drive their cars in a planned protest next month against the ultra-conservative kingdom's ban on women taking the wheel.

The call comes as activists are demanding the release of Manal al-Sharif, a Saudi woman who was jailed for defying the ban.

The page, titled "The Iqal Campaign: June 17 for preventing women from driving," refers to the Arabic name for the cord used to hold on the traditional headdress worn by many men in the Gulf, advocating the cord be used to hit women who dare to drive.

It has drawn over 6,000 "likes" on the popular social networking website.

Some on the page proposed distributing boxes of Iqals to youths and encouraging them use them to hit women who participate in the June 17 protest.

Why Facebook Facial Recognition Should Scare You
International Business Times, by Joe Romaine

Facebook’s facial recognition capability should scare you. From a mere photo, Facebook can identify your profile. From there, the sky is the limit because the company knows as much about you as you let it, which for some people is nearly everything. You might think Facebook’s facial recognition feature isn’t so bad right now. After all, it’s only an auto-suggestion among friends to tag your photo. Also, you can ‘opt out’ of this function (i.e. not allow Facebook to auto-suggest your name to your friends). However, the real danger is in the existence

Facebook is changing the way people keep in touch with each other. Moby cowers like a little girl behind his screen name on this message board so it's easy to see why Facebook threatens him so much. How does it feel to go through life as a bigoted, moron loser,Moby?

really sparks? You mean like the FACEBOOK messages we've been seeing from Rep. Anthony Weiner?

you can keep it sparks.

they're not changing the way my friends and family keep in touch with one another.

But, if you're stupid enough to wantonly and willingly be a participant in a scheme where someone you never met is deliberately collecting identifiable photographs of you and personal information about you without even knowing why then you go right ahead sparks. I'll wager you have no idea where this info is going and what is done with it.

And if it's also ok with you, I'll still keep in touch with my family and friends the old bigoted moronic fashioned way... on the telephone or stopping by.

anybody else here agree with sparkie?

I don't see why anyone would feed any factual information into one of those sites. I still get grief when I fill out paperwork and don't list a cell phone or e-mail address.

I've answered you on many occasions.

SO.... in case you forgot.... here is my latest response and reasonable request to which you have yet again ran away from.

remember this

Last time I tuned in you had run out of material by 6:15 and were reading posts from this board. Your show is even more boring than the Preacher's and has far fewer sponsors. That's 15 minutes of my life that I'll never get back.

Then why are you even here?

I want the details about the businesses that you and your friends closed when Obama was elected President.

Oh my....we've come up with a new way to weasel out of the tough questions haven't we?

You open your big fat mouth and rip and bully this woman up each and every time you log on to this board. Then you rip this board because it doesn't cater to your idiotic outlook on life and you constantly remind us of how only losers post here.

So we asked you one simple question. ''then why are you here''..and you couldn't even answer it without your masters interfering.

can't you ever man up by yourself?...or did your ''handlers'' come up with this one? they are making a complete fool out of you pal. They laugh at you everytime you leave the room. I bet you can't hang with them if you don't obey their commands is that it? Or are you just one big fat bully so miserable with his existence he has reduced himself to picking on the women of some obscure local chat board just to feel good about himself? Because deep down your bootlicking and ass kissing for acceptance is finally wearing thin isn't it? All that work for nothing?

now back to your question.

I don't see a problem providing details of my ''early'' retirement, and ya know it's funny you mentioned it too. I was down in Texas over the 4th of July weekend, so I even have an update for you on that if you're interested.... exactly what details do were you looking for sparks? How much actual work I have left on the books? Projected work? Other contractors who won't/can't pay their bills? gub'mint entities that won't/can't pay their bills? How many employees are left? What do you need sparks?

Oh and, will you agree to finally give us the ''details'' of all the charities you donate your time and money to and the ''details'' of your bankruptcy when I provide these details you ask for?

Or is this just a new way you've come up with to weasel out of the tough questions?

Flash Mob Robbery Occurs at Victoria's
Secret Store in Georgetown

myfoxdc.com, by Will Thomas

WASHINGTON - D.C. Police detectives are investigating a theft at a Victoria’s Secret store Monday afternoon located inside the Shops at Georgetown Park. Lt. John Hedgecock said two men and two women entered the store at 2 p.m. and within a matter of seconds, scooped up lingerie and took off on foot.
"We have some information that they may be using some of the social media such as Facebook and Twitter to schedule an event if you will," Hedgecock said. Similar incidents have occurred throughout Georgetown and other parts of the city
