5 Stabbed at Jail-Release Welcome Home Party
NBC News (Philadelphia), by Teresa Masterson

A welcome home party for a teen released from juvenile detention resulted in gunshots and stab wounds for five people at the party. The congratulations-for-getting-out-of-juvenile-detention party occurred on the 500 block of Hess Street in Bethlehem Saturday night, police told the Morning Call. Reports of gunshots in that area brought police to find two people with stab wounds from a huge brawl that erupted on the street during the party. Police brought the two wounded to St. Luke’s Hospital and later discovered that three more people were stabbed and had gone to the hospital on their own.

Bridgeport Woman Beaten to Death in Garage by Parolee: Cops
Sun-Times Media Wire

Chicago - A parolee who fatally beat and robbed an elderly nurse in Bridgeport last month used the dead woman’s engagement and wedding rings to propose to his girlfriend, Cook County prosecutors said Thursday.

Raymond Harris, 36, showed the rings off at a party just hours after he attacked Virginia Perillo in her garage in the 3300 block of South Parnell, assistant state’s attorney Melissa Howlett said. In addition to her rings, Harris also took Perillo’s purse, Howlett said.

Perillo, 73, was discovered by a neighbor in a pool of blood with severe head injuries and defense wounds to her forearms on the night of Oct. 22. The brain-dead woman died at Stroger Hospital two days later.

Wyclef Jean

LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - Less than a third of the $16 million gathered in 2010 by hip-hop star Wyclef Jean for earthquake relief in Haiti actually made it to emergency efforts in the country, the New York Post reported on Sunday.

According to the exclusive report, Jean's charity, Yele Haiti, doled out millions in questionable contracts -- in fact, $1 million was paid to a Florida firm that doesn't seem to exist.

The Post also reported that a company called P&A Construction -- which is run by Warnel Pierre, Jean's brother-in-law -- received $353,983 from the group.

Founded in 2005 with his cousin Jerry Duplessis, Jean's charity was troubled before the disastrous January 2010 earthquake struck his native country. In 2008, it was revealed that the organization had never filed required tax forms detailing its spending to the IRS.

The charity lost $244,000 in 2009. But almost immediately after the January 12, 2010, quake, Jean took to Twitter asking for $5 donations, which quickly rolled in.

Soon after, it was reported that Yele Haiti had given $250,000 to a Haitian TV station controlled by Jean and Duplessis.

"Have we made mistakes before? Yes," said a tearful Jean, a former Haitian presidential candidate, holding a January 2010 press conference to defend his charity against that charge. "Did I ever use Yele money for personal benefits? Absolutely not. Yele's books are open and transparent."

Yele Haiti has not yet issued a statement to respond to the new charges.

I guess we'll have to buy a pair of ''sneakers'' for every pos punk that lives in Harlem now.

‘Will I get my sneakers back?':
Boy's first question to police after dropping shopping
cart on woman and leaving her in coma

Daily mail

* Boys remanded in custody until December 19 sentencing hearing
* Lawyer said they were laughing and showing 'no remorse' after the incident

The 13-year-old boy who pushed a shopping cart off a Harlem overpass - hitting a woman and putting her in a coma - cared more about his sneakers than her condition, according to officials.

City lawyer Leah Schmelzer said Jeovanni Rosario, 13, and his 'partner in crime' Raymond Hernandez, 12, spent the day 'laughing and joking and showed no empathy or remorse' after the October 30 incident.

He told Manhattan Family Court judge Susan Larabee: 'The respondent was more concerned with the condition of his sneakers than the condition of his victim.'

A police source told the New York Post that Rosario asked: 'Am I going to be able to get my sneakers back?' as he was led off to detention.

Both boys have pleaded guilty to dropping the cart over the railing of a shopping mall despite knowing it could seriously hurt those below.

Their actions left philanthropist mother-of-two Marion Hedges, 47, in a coma and they face anything from probation up to being jailed until their 18th birthdays.

At least four people were arrested in a mad dash by customers hoping to purchase a pair of the new Nike Air Jordan basketball shoes at a suburban Atlanta shopping mall.

DeKalb County police tell Fox 5 Atlanta that up to 20 squad cars responded to a mall in Lithonia early Friday. They said a large crowd broke down a door to get inside before a store opened.

Police say they escorted most of the people back outside, but took four into custody.

Shoppers at three Charlotte-area malls became unruly early Friday after waiting in line before dawn to buy the latest version of the Air Jordan shoe line.

Dozens of police officers were called to restore order at Carolina Place Mall in Pineville after fights erupted. The unrest started just after 5 a.m. as a crowd of about 200 that had been waiting pushed inside.

There were also disturbances at SouthPark and Northlake malls. Police and officials at both shopping centers asked patrons to leave.
