2 Charged with Beating Elderly Woman in Ultra Food Parking Lot
Sun-Times Media Wire

Forest Park, Ill. - Two west suburban men have been charged with the brutal beating of an elderly woman that left her with a fractured skull and broken eye socket after she refused to give up her purse in a grocery parking lot last month.

Detectives are still seeking a woman wanted in connection with the beating and robbery, which police at the time called a "savage attack."

Kenny Hollyfield, 53, of Addison, is charged with one count each of aggravated battery, aggravated battery of a senior citizen, attempted first-degree murder and attempted robbery. He has been identified as the primary offender, a release from Forest Park police said.

Robert Mix, 54, of Addison is charged with one count each of aggravated battery and aggravated battery of a senior, the release said.

IND. GOV'T. - MORE ON "REPUBLICANS IN THE SENATE TRYING TO CHANGE THE RULES OF THE GAME REGARDING LAWSUIT AGAINST CHARLIE WHITE'S ELIGIBILTY AS A CANDIDATE"
Quote:
Clearly unable to act credibly as the state's chief election officer, White should heed bipartisan calls to resign. Whether he does so, or persists in his defiance, the possibility of a vacancy looms.

What to do about it? White's fellow Republicans in the Indiana Senate have an answer: Move the goal posts.

Sen. Michael Young's amendment, adopted with only one GOP nay vote, would empower the governor to appoint the secretary's replacement. Current law gives the post to the second-place finisher -- in this case, Democrat Vop Osili.

Time for an uprising in Benton Harbor
Chicago Sun-Times, by Jesse Jackson

Benton Harbor, Mich., is a town of nearly 11,000 people, about 90 percent of whom are African American. It is a catalogue of the misery of the industrial Midwest. It was the headquarters and manufacturing center of Whirlpool, but the last Whirlpool plant closed years ago. Now Benton Harbor has a per capita income of about $10,000 a year. And it is plagued by the ills that accompany poverty in today’s America: high unemployment, broke government, failing schools, crime, drugs and despair.

Everything has been stripped from Benton Harbor’s residents. The industrial jobs that used to provide a ladder into the middle class have been shipped abroad. The call center jobs that replaced them employ few at a poverty wage. The failing tax base means that public services are starved. The schools struggle to educate children from mean streets; these children are often hungry and without adequate health care or stable homes. The good teachers flee; the schools fail or are taken over, a shuffle that substitutes motion for real action on poverty.

Mob of Thieves Swarms
Las Vegas Convenience Store

8 News Now TV - Las Vegas, by Aaron Drawhorn

Caught on camera, a mob of young people bombarded the City Stop convenience store on Sunset Road and Pecos Road and stole $600 in merchandise. "It became a feeding frenzy," said City Stop owner Jon Athey. "They were in the store for three minutes and 30 seconds… It's a pretty scary thing." Athey says the crowd darted in and snatched numerous items from the store. "Beer to jerky to candy bars to soda, whatever hit their fancy… potato chips," he said. Athey says this tactic is known as a "swarm".

As the air head state rep. Charlie Brown from Gary would say. When he was confronted with the blight and crime in his city. He blamed it on "outsiders". Those individuals must be outsiders. HE HE!!!

Wanna bet he's a democrat

Michigan lottery winner still on welfare

AUBURN, M.I. (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - A Michigan man's fantasy became a reality when he hit a big lottery pay day, but the new millionaire isn't giving up his welfare check.

Leroy Fick was on public assistance when he took home a two-million dollar prize last June.

Food stamps are a federal program and are based on a person's gross income.

Lottery winnings are considered liquid assets and don't count as income and Leroy says he doesn't feel bad about being rich and staying on welfare.

Fick says his pay day isn't all that great, saying the IRS took more than half of his winnings.

Still, many who need public assistance say he is mocking them and the system.

Dunkin Donuts

WCBS-TV

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — The NYPD is searching for a group of young people caught on surveillance video trashing a West Village Dunkin Donuts.

According to police, the group walked into the store at 75 Christopher St., on May 16 at around 8:15 p.m. and almost immediately started making mischief.

The gang threw chairs, tables, napkins and condiments. Before making their way out, a couple of them went behind the counter and grabbed doughnuts.

South Beach Miami
Memorial Day War Zone

American Thinker, by M. Catharine Evans

An apartment dweller in South Beach Miami posted a shocking video online (video is now removed) just hours after violence erupted outside his window early Monday morning. The streets were filled with the annual Urban Beach Week partiers who have descended on the town since 2001.

The event, which draws hundreds of thousands of people including famous performers like Ludacris and Busta Rhymes, usually drives locals out of town for the weekend. Miami Beach Commissioner Ed Tobin told a Miami Herald reporter just two days ago:

I would not want anyone that I know, a friend or visitor, to be outside on South Beach after 11 p.m. on this weekend because it is dangerous despite what seemed like thousands of police officers at every corner.

The Memorial day shootouts left one man dead, and three police officers injured along with a few bystanders.

Teens Charged in Mob Attacks
NBC Chicago.com, by Lisa Balde and Zach Christman

Charges were filed early Monday against five teenagers allegedly involved in separate robbery attacks Saturday night.

Police say the teens were part of a mob of between 15 and 20 men and boys connected to four attacks in Streeterville and along the lakefront.

Dvonte Sykes, 17, of the 7500 block of South Normal and two 16-year-old males were charged with felony counts of robbery and mob action after a man was knocked off his bike in the 700 block of North Lake Shore Drive, then punched and robbed. His cell phone and camera were stolen.

Trovolus Pickett, 17, of the 8400 block of South Dorchester, and Derodte M. Wright, 18, of the 3500 block of South State were charged in connection with an attack that happened earlier in the evening on Northwestern University’s Streeterville campus.

Police say the victim parked his scooter around 8:30 p.m. Saturday on the north side of Chicago Avenue across from Wieboldt Hall when up to 20 males approached him.

Prosecutor: Store owner accused of massive food-stamp fraud
also had government assistance for his family

The Grand Rapids Press, by John Agar

GRAND RAPIDS – After reporting low income and virtually no assets, the government says, Ahmed Sheikh Mohamed got help for food, housing, heating, medical treatment and college costs for his family.

He didn't disclose that his small Grand Rapids grocery store deposited $800,000 from 2006 to 2009. Or, that he made $60,000 annually in food-stamp fraud. Or, that he routinely moved cash in a business account to an account for personal spending, which included a $15,000 family vacation in Mecca, the government said.

“The principal goal of the conspiracy was to obtain money by defrauding federal programs intended to provide food, housing, medical care and underprivileged,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Nils Kessler wrote recently in a court document.

Suburban school official, board member
indicted in kickback scheme

Chicago Sun-Times, by Lauren Fitzpatric

A former North Chicago school board member and her district’s transportation director took kickbacks totaling at least $800,000 over 10 years from contractors who had been awarded the district’s lucrative school bus contracts, federal prosecutors said Thursday.

Gloria Harper, 59, of North Chicago, was a member of the board of North Chicago Community Unit School District 187, and Alice Sherrod, 59, of Gurnee, was in charge of transportation for the district of 4,000 students, prosecutors said in announcing a 26-count indictment against them and three contractors.

In 2001, the women started collecting $4,000 to $5,000 a month in exchange for sending business to suburban bus companies, but by 2003, they were receiving $20,000 a month, the indictment states. During that same time period, the women awarded $21 million in student bus contracts to companies that paid them off, the indictment reads.
