State police to run sobriety checkpoints

By Keith Benman keith.benman@nwi.com, (219) 933-3326 | Posted: Monday, March 5, 2012 8:23 am | 1 Comment

Indiana State Police will set up sobriety checkpoints around Lake County Thursday night as well as conduct roving saturation patrols.

Motorists who are not driving impaired can expect short delays of just two or three minutes at checkpoints, according to state police. All drivers must produce a valid license and registration. If all information is correct and there is no other reason to be detained, the motorist can be on their way.

The public is urged to aid state police in keeping the roads safe by calling emergency 911 or the closest Indiana State Police post when they observe another motorist that might be driving impaired. Give state police a description of the vehicle, location and direction of travel.

So many great comments, no wonder this world is falling apart and crazy! Look around you, look at all the crime, do you really think peoples "rights" are being abuse (maybe by the criminals)? First I don't drink and drive, so I guess that right there makes my response a no brainer.. Have any of you ever driven through a sobriety check point? Did it really ruin your life, make you late, was it really that big of a deal? This argument is not valid, simply because driving a car on the road has really nothing to do with your constitutional rights, and we are not talking about being searched, we are talking about simply being stopped and questioned. If you think so strongly about it, then why do you have to be searched and questioned to fly on an air plane? Bottom line is if you have nothing to hide then you have nothing to worry about, for a very small and short inconvenience.

Arch are you capable of anything other than copy & paste, do you think it's your duty to pull in news stories and re-post them here?

Politician M Lyres, I just like to bring the facts and expose liberals to all the things the LMSM doesn't show them.

You're welcome.

Indiana police to crack down on seat belt use

May 18, 2012 2:58PM

Updated: May 19, 2012 12:00AM

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Police in Indiana are stepping up efforts to enforce wearing seat belts heading into the Memorial Day weekend.

The Indiana Criminal Justice Institute says more than 250 law enforcement agencies throughout the state will conduct special patrols to identify and ticket unrestrained motorists. Institute Traffic Safety Director Ryan Klitzsch says last year more than 1,000 people were ejected from their vehicles in accidents in Indiana.

In 2010, 52 percent of all occupants killed in crashes in Indiana were not wearing seat belts.

The campaign begins Friday and runs through June 3.

Indiana troopers part of 6-state weekend DUI blitz

June 28, 2012 11:14AM

Updated: June 28, 2012 11:26PM

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The Indiana State Police will team up with troopers from five other states to crack down on intoxicated driving this weekend.

The 6-State Trooper Project blitz on Friday and Saturday also involves state police agencies in Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

The Indiana State Police says its troopers will use sobriety checkpoints and high-visibility saturation patrols as they focus on areas with large numbers of intoxicated drivers.

The 6-State Trooper Project is a partnership aimed at providing combined and coordinated law enforcement and security services in the areas of highway safety, crime patrols and intelligence sharing.
