Over rated dump sitting on government land.

Gives us a national park we can be proud of with all the trimmings. We want cabins hiking trails fishing piers nature centers and a miniature train or mono rail going through park.

We want the big bucks spent here in this state like the other states have been getting.

The residents of Ogden Dunes should be paid fair market values for there homes and given 6 months to get!

Thanks for helping me make my point the more reason for the national parks to take the land.

First off .... The National Park Service is nearly bankrupt and couldn't afford the buyout of these properties. Which by law would have to be purchased at 150% of fair value. The economic costs would make it impossible.

Secondly I see you are pushing them to seize miller as well. Miller is the only real tax base Gary has left. You would just sign the death certificate on the rest of Gary. Not that it hasn't been long dead anyways.

So why stop there? Why not push out US steel why you are at ? Why not Accelor Mittal? Why not BP Amoco? And make a unified Lake Front.

For someone that spends so much time talking about how you use the system, you are advocating spending an awful lot of other peoples money.

Obama said during his campaign he "will repair the damage done to our national parks by inadequate funding," but so far, he has done only slightly better than George W. Bush when it comes to boosting the parks' budget. Since 2007, the annual budget has increased by more than $100 million a year. Next year's increase of $218 million is an improvement, but it's hardly transformative.

"It's a very little increase that Obama has managed to get through the Congress," says Bruce Hamilton, deputy executive director of the Sierra Club. "It may be a step in the right direction, but it's not nearly enough. Much more needs to be done by Congress and the administration to find much larger public funding investment in future years. They will need to keep adding more."

Last year, under Bush, the parks budget was about $2.5 billion. This year, it is a bit over $2.7 billion. The parks have a maintenance backlog of $9.2 billion and an operating deficit of about $580 million. Their annual budget is less than 0.1 percent of the federal budget and is less than what America spends in a week in Iraq.
