For making As and Bs, showing up for every class and behaving himself in class, Bloom Trail freshman Stephen Kralaf got $50 cash.

And for each month this year he remains a stellar student, he'll collect at least $50 more to add to his computer fund.

The freshman class of more than 520 students was broken into thirds, with a control group, one group earning $50 for their parents and one group getting to keep the cash for themselves every month. Several monthly $500 prizes also are raffled off for those who are successful.

Brittany Garcia, of Steger, won a $500 raffle prize she planned to use on a new phone. At the reward program last week, she nodded, yes, she was working harder knowing cash awaited her before tearing out front to enjoy the rest of her prize: a joy ride in a gigantic white stretch limo complete with interior flashing lights.
