E.C. library director, wife arrested by NICTD policeThe director of the East Chicago Public Library and his wife were
arrested Thursday night by NICTD transit police, who said the couple were i
ntoxicated and attempted to board an empty, closed train at the South Shore Line's Millennium Station in Chicago.
Manuel Montalvo, 35, of the 5600 block of Wegg Avenue in East Chicago, was
arrested for disorderly conduct, criminal trespass to state-supported property and battery to a law enforcement officer. Estela Montalvo, 32, was arrested for
disorderly conduct, according to NICTD Transit Police Chief Robert Byrd. Both have been charged by the Cook County State's Attorney's office and were
jailed at the Chicago Police Department's 1st District lock-up.
Manuel Montalvo is the director of the East Chicago Public Library and involved in local
Democratic politics. In March 2009, he was chosen by Lake County Democrats as party secretary.
