Hi folks........

I'm new to the website here....so my inquiries may be a repeat of others.
Anyhow, I am in search of any information regarding the old iron truss bridge in Portage.
It is simply called the Crisman Bridge. It spans the Little Calumet River and is immediately west of Hwy. 249. The short section of road that goes over the bridge used to be a much longer stretch called Crisman Road (replaced on the north side of town by Hwy. 249).

Specifically, I am in search of ANY info regarding the year it was constructed....who erected it.....how much is cost...etc. All I know at this point is that it was manufactured by Inland Steel.

Some sources say it was built in 1930....others in the early 1920s....and others still in the late 1800s.

Thank you.

Thanks, Tony, for the info.
I've come across that site before and it is one that has a questionable construction date.
It does have other info that I needed and will use in my research.
Thank you again.

No problem! :)

Have you check the records with the state?
They may have the dates you're needing.

Good luck with your project.

Try the Indiana History room at the Portage Library.

If you don't find what you want there, try the Genealogy department at the Valpo Library.
:D
