Immigration march to stress civil rights ties

I wonder if a bunch of US nationals were to go to Mexico City with similar demands in a rally what the government's response would be? Odds are they'd put them in jail before deporting them I think. :lol:

Why should we be catering to people who aren't even supposed to be here? If any government official were to participate in this rally I would hope they would be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Unfortunately, we know that will never happen. :(

I'm just saying that they actually have a purpose when I can afford to pay them to mow the lawn. It's going to be a long summer...

Not to mention, you are taking a job away from either a young person who needs the money to attend college or pay for car insurance, or from a legitmate lawn business that pays TAXES on the money they earn.

So does anyone who mows their own lawn. Someone comes to my door and wants to mow my lawn they'd better accept my rates. Simple as that.

Nonsense. You were speaking of hiring someone to mow your lawn.

If an illegal alien comes to your door and offers to mow your lawn and you hire them, you have broken the law. Simple as that.

And it is not your responsibility to check and see if a girl scout selling cookies is "legal", only if YOU hire the girl to sell cookies would it be your legal responsibility.

For the record I have not actively sought out illegals to mow my law. At the same time I admittedly have not checked the status of every person I've ever paid to do it. Simple as that. That being said, I don't know anyone that does.

Actually you more than implied there would be a good chance the person you hired would be illegal. I don't think too many Irish nationals are rushing to Lake County to mow your yard on the cheap. :lol:

Owner: Immigration agents raided Paragon Family Restaurant



SCHERERVILLE | U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents took employees of the Paragon Family Restaurant into custody Wednesday morning, and escorted customers from the restaurant, the owner said.

Paragon owner Michael McClellan could not say how many staff members were taken into custody during the raid, which took place shortly after 8 a.m.

Later Wednesday, McClellan stood in the Paragon's nearly empty parking lot and told customers the restaurant was closed. He expects to reopen the restaurant Saturday morning.

ICE spokeswoman Gail Montenegro confirmed via e-mail that agents served the search warrants on Wednesday as part of an "ongoing criminal work-site enforcement investigation."

"Because the operation is ongoing, no further information can be disclosed at this time," Montenegro wrote in her e-mail.

McClellan said he took over the restaurant nearly 18 months ago, and is fully cooperating with authorities. He said he has already provided them with all of the paperwork they requested.

I don't know why they didn't just raid the buses headed for Washington but at least ICE is not entirely ignoring enforcement of the law.

I think the only immigration discussion that would be productive is how do we best repatriate the offenders, not how can we least offend the offenders and slide in amnesty.

I'm not surprised. It's common knowledge within within the community that Jimmy hires them at Hobart's Paragon (houses them too so I hear). Hopefully they check it out too.

Steve Gibson of St. Mary's Catholic Church, 812 W. 144th St., said he believes the raid of a restaurant by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents last week, along with roadblocks set up by law enforcement, are connected to the fact that people who want reform of the nation's immigration laws publicly protested last week both in Washington, D.C., and East Chicago.

Gibson, who said he will conduct a prayer vigil at 7 p.m. Wednesday at his church in response to the law enforcement actions, said he is concerned about the immigrants.

"We're talking about real people here, their families, who shouldn't have to be subjected to this," he said.

Well I'm a real person too and I don't think I should be subjected to possibly being a victim of identity theft or some other crime, paying taxes to support their medical bills or being on the dole, or being belittled for having concerns about the aforementioned. There are plenty of people who follow the rules and immigrate legally and they are welcome. They also have a greater tendency to not cost me money or put my life in peril. So while they're praying I hope they remember to address that!
