Obama on spot as rulings aid gay partners
He must decide whether to provide health insurance to same-sex partners

WASHINGTON - Just seven weeks into office, President Obama is being forced to confront one of the most sensitive social and political issues of the day: whether the government must provide health insurance benefits to same-sex partners of federal employees.

In separate, strongly worded orders, two judges of the federal appeals court in California said that employees of their court were entitled to health benefits for their same-sex partners under the program that insures millions of federal workers.

But the federal Office of Personnel Management has instructed insurers not to provide the benefits ordered by the judges, citing a 1996 law, the Defense of Marriage Act.

As a presidential candidate, Mr. Obama said he would “fight hard” for the rights of gay couples. As a senator, he sponsored legislation that would have provided health benefits to same-sex partners of federal employees.

Now, Mr. Obama is in a tough spot. If he supports the personnel office on denying benefits to the San Francisco court employees, he risks agitating liberal groups that helped him win election. If he supports the judges and challenges the marriage act, he risks alienating Republicans with whom he is seeking to work on economic, health care and numerous other matters.

IMO, if the couple are not legally married, they should not get any benefits. I could care less if it is 2 guys, 2 girls, or 1 guy and 1 girl shacking up. Shacking up is not married.

If gays were allowed to get married this wouldn't even be a discussion.

If gays would 'straighten' out their lives instead of expecting the entire world to be as warped as they are, this wouldn't even be a discussion.

Because I believe in mind over matter.

I believe that our intellect is our soul, our self.

I believe that we are to live within our spirit, not in our flesh.

Homosexuality is a fleshly desire. Anyone who really wants to please God can overcome anything fleshly.

Guess that's where priests come from.

Is there something wrong with homosexuality, karent..?

Or is it only wrong when Priests are homosexual...?

What about pedaphiles..? Most pedaphiles are homosexual.

With a major difference.

Priests hide what they do because they know it is wrong. That means they still have a conscience and are capable of repenting and being forgiven.

Openly gay people don't see anything wrong with it. They have no respect for themselves or others by parading a man around in a wedding dress making spectacles of themselves in society. IMO, their actions are unconscionable.
