Good old Chicago. I see Fox and WGN continue to broadcast their analog signals despite the digital changeover today.
I can only assume the changeover happened because I forgot to buy an adapter thingy I need when I got my converter box. I had thought for a while I would just boycott the digital programs, basically give up TV, but then I decided it was a stupid thing to do for no good reason.
I'm still glad I can watch the Simpsons on Channel 32 with my little rabbit ear TV.
I just always loved the idea of broadcasting programming through the air that way. Anyone can get it, for free, just about everywhere.
Like AM radio.
:D

Aw, darn it.
Fox is running a crawl on their Channel 32 analog broadcast saying it is going off at midnight.
I guess I don't understand the point of killing off the analog complex while adding digital?
Can anyone explain why they are destroying analog over the air broadcasting.

Freetime, the primary reason is that analog will be used for emergency broadcasts and first responder communication. It frees up those frequency bands that are needed for more important things. Digital broadcasts take up probably less than half the bandwidth that analog does. You can still get free TV you just need to have a converter.

I think it is unwise to end analog that way.
There are plenty of RADIO frequencies for emergency responders.
I don't wanna go digital at the exclusion of analog. We should have both.

I got a coupon, bought a converter box and hooked it up at the office. Took all of ten minutes. Now have over 30 channels (about 1/3 are Hispanic) including some channels out of Wisconsin. With the coupon, it cost me $10.

I said earlier I just forgot to get an antenna adaptor when I bought the box (for $5 with the coupon) Then, my car was dead for a few days, no way to get an adaptor. Now I think I'll try a few days of NO TV, just because.
I still do think it wasn't a wise move to kill the analog system that was in place.

Well, at one point we had to quit using whale oil for our lamps, too. Could you imagine what an analog computer would be like. It's no different than the switch from analog to digital cell phones, about a year ago...progress.
