I thought you always played to win the game. Quote: Colts fans angry as unbeaten season ends with loss to Jets USA Today, by Gary Mihoces
INDIANAPOLIS — The home crowd booed when Peyton Manning was lifted from the game in the third quarter. The Indianapolis Colts' perfect season left the building a short while later.
"Sure, any competitive player wants to be in there to play. But obviously we had some other things that went into the decisions," Manning said after the New York Jets turned a fumble by his rookie backup, Curtis Painter, into a go-ahead touchdown and went on to beat the Colts 29-15 Sunday. The Colts, now 14-1, also had NFL-record streak of 23 consecutive regular season wins ended by a Jets team that kept its playoff hopes alive at 8-7.
"I feel fortunate that we were able to win the game," said Jets coach Rex Ryan. "Our guys played great. … This football team (the Colts) beat 14 teams so they earned the right to play it the way they wanted to."
But the Colts wrapped up the No. 1 seed and the home field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs two weekends ago. For them, Sunday was simply an exercise in walking the fine line between staying sharp and avoiding injuries.http://www.usatoday.com/sports/football ... olts_N.htm
