East Chicago Mayor George Pabey has been convicted of stealing city resources connected to the remodeling of his second home.

Here's the Times report:

http://www.nwitimes.com/

Lake County Democratic Chairman Tom McDermott will be in a position to choose a new mayor for the Twin City. He has been pretty lucky in installing the candidates of his choice in previous party caucuses.

I wonder if the Feds will be watching him so he doesn't slip off to Puerto Rico, or to Greece to be with Frankie K.?

The Times says according to Indiana law, City Controller Charlie "Tuna" Pacurar will be interim mayor until McDermott holds the caucus.

Someone needs to watch McDermotts re-election pot to make sure that within the next 10 days, there is not a sudden rise in the amount in the pot

I thought that mailman guy was responsible for the mayor's pot stash. :P

State Rep. Frank Mrvan deserves kudos for authoring the state law that removed Pabey from office as soon as the guilty verdict was rendered. According to the Times story, the courtroom was filled with EC dept. heads. This makes the second conviction of an EC public official this week. EC Library head Manuel Montavlo and his wife were both convicted of charges stemming from an arrest in Chicago earlier this week. The story also contains a link to a video taken during the arrest. It's pretty sad that EC can't do a better job of selecting residents to work in local government. http://www.nwitimes.com/news/local/lake/east-chicago/article_5a1af707-b0ca-5023-83a2-91b78a8c8eed.html
Cook County Judge David Skryd found both Lake County Democratic Party secretary Manuel Montalvo and his wife guilty of all charges they faced for an incident at the Millennium Park commuter train station in May.Manuel Montalvo was charged with two counts of battery for his alleged chest bumps of two commuter train police officers, a disorderly conduct charge for his shouting and use of obscenity during the May 27 confrontation with police, and a criminal trespass to state property charge for refusing to leave the train platform when police told him to.Estela Montalvo was charged with resisting arrest, obstruction of a police officer and disorderly conduct.Manuel Montalvo, who also is director of the East Chicago Public Library, was sentenced to one year of court supervision and 40 hours of community service for the misdemeanor counts, while Estela Montalvo was sentenced to one year of conditional discharge, a step lower than court supervision.
