This is your Lake County Democratic Party Chairman way of doing business.

Found in the Hammond Times editorial section is a small 5 line editorial. In itself it says much. Some history, Mayor Thomas McDermott jr. found United Neighborhood Inc, shortly after his election when he could not gain controll of Neighborhoods Inc. Neighborhoods Inc was doing a good to great job with their efforts in Hammond, but McDermott could not support something he did not have controll of. FYI, McDermott's current appointment, to run this agency, has twice been late paying their property taxes, and as of a few days ago, again for the second time, owes the LC Taxpayers over $1,000 in due property taxes, but that is not what this posting is about.

McDermott and others on the city council give hundreds of thousands of Hammond Taxpayers money to organizations which have no accounting how they spend the taxpayers money or the use of Hammond Taxpayers money. Now some might argue it is not taxpayes money, but any money channeled through a governmental agency is taxpayers money and should be accounted for. We all have read about the use of ACORN monies.

HUD grant shows why we should beware of health care reform
Posted: Sunday, December 20, 2009 12:00 am

Let me understand this: HUD gives United Neighborhoods Inc. a $145,000 grant to rehab a house. The house is now on the market for $100,000 in a neighborhood where houses are selling for $60,000 to $70,000,if a buyer can be found.

This is the government mentality that wants to handle our health care. God help us-- please.

- Chuck Demkowicz, St. John

Where is the accounting of how this money was spent?
How was the property chosen?
Who owned this property prior to its posesssion by UNI?
Who got the contracts to rehab the property?
Were the contracts bid out by public form, or did someone just make a call to a friend or Pal (no not you Sparkie)?
Is this another GUEA?
