Now here's a bad idea-put 10,000 tons of garbage a day less than 2 miles to the Kankakee River.
There's news in the Post-Tribune today that the owners of Lake County's proposed waste disposal facility arew looking at Huber's Sod Farm for its location:

I can hardly believe the Lake County Solid Waste Management District is AGAIN inviting garbage from Chicago and its suburbs to Northwest Indiana. Lake County taxpayers are still paying millions of dollars for the District's botched and now scuttled landfill plans, which also included a provision to handle trash from outside the county. Residents of Eagle Creek Township protested mightily at the prospect of becoming a waste disposal site for the entire Chicagoland area.
Why the hell wouldn't the District have limited any waste disposal facility to Lake County only?
Nevermind, I already know the answer.
MONEY!
I think the Lake County Solid Waste Management District should be dismantled. It is an expensive, unnecessary layer of government we would be MUCH better off without.
