Well, Well, Well, people thought that old Gus Kouros was a fading light in East Chicago when he resigned his council position. However, three days before he resigned the position, his job contract with the EC school system was extended till 2011. EC will never change! Of course there is no comment from the mayor's office, or anywhere else for that matter. If I was a resident there, I would be planning to leave, like Gus did a long time ago!

If you don't live there, why do you concern yourself with the mayor?

BTW: EC's newest consultant doesn't live there either. That's probably why he took that job rather than run for mayor.

Imagine an EC politician buying off a potential rival!

Corruption in Lake County is a Democrat thing. Crown Point has been Republican for over 150 years and there has never been an indictment. There are never corruption charges against Republicans like Larry Blanchard or Sue Lansky.

As far as the condition of the U.S., there are more people employed than ever in U.S. history. Unemployment is near record lows. The economy is booming and the stock market reaching record highs.

Is Iraq better off with 45,000 dead in the current war than with the hundreds of thousands Saddam Hussein killed? And the thousands more he tortured and gassed. Unfortunately, blood is the only currency that has ever been used to purchase freedom.

What freedoms are thre Iraqis purchasing with their blood? Their country is in shambles, they have LESS public services like electricity and water, they are now subjected to curfews and assorted violence on a daily basis. What areTHEY gaining? what are WE gaining?

It is a shame that this kind of behavior continues in East Chicago. There are a couple of things that are troubling. The Times recently ran a story that exposed the fact that Gus Kouros lives in Schererville, in spite of the fact that as an East Chicago councilman, he is required to live in East Chicago. So he resigns his councilman position and the school board rewards him with a two year extension of his $72,000/yr job? The pay seems high for overseeing the school's cafeterias. In addition to that, Gus is 81 years old. It would seem like the school city could find an East Chicago resident who could do the job for less.
