MERRILLVILLE | A 52-year-old Merrillville man is accused of molesting a 4-year-old relative while the girl was staying overnight at his house. Raymond Marcus Paz, Sr., of the 7000 block of Van Buren Street, was charged Friday with child molesting, a count C felony, in Lake Superior Court. The incidents, including fondling and touching the girl, are alleged to have occurred between Jan. 1 and June 19, according to court documents. Det. Lt. Don Toth said Paz remains at large. He said a warrant for his arrest will be issued next week through the Lake County Prosecutor's office. Court documents indicate that the mother of the girl, who also lives in Merrillville, took her to the doctor after discovering she had a vaginal irritation or rash. The mom said she later explained to the girl that no one should touch her private area except her mother, father and a doctor. It was then that the girl told her mother Paz had touched her vaginal area with his fingers. She said Paz, who had her sleep in the same bed with him, also woke her up to place her hand on his genitals. The girl was interviewed at the Lake County Child and Family Assistance Bureau and drew a picture illustrating what Paz had made her do to him. Paz later admitted to police that he had slept in the same bed as the girl and that her hand might have touched him in an intimate way by accident when he was masturbating, according to court records. He said the girl may have also caught him when he was in front of his computer looking at pornography, according to court records. nwitimes on Saturday, June 25, 2005
