I was the camera man for this event today, which was a very hot day. It was extremely well attended, my guess is that there was around 500 people at one point, possibly more. There was food, music, motivational speakers, and school supplies. 3rd district councilman Anthony Higgs was the organizer of this event, with the assistance of Carlotta King, and many others. Rocharda Moore Morris, Councilman Bob Markovich,and Councilman Spitale, were volunteers at this event. Other notables who made their appearance were some School City of Hammond Teachers and others from the school system. Dr. Watkins was in attendance, as was Mrs. White. The Hammond High JrROTC posted colors at the start of this event. The HHS cheerleaders had an excellent performance, and they, and the football players from HHS, gave a very good speech. The footage I took today will be on youtube, the School City website, and possibly some other locations on the net, within the next few days. The most touching speaker was the mother of that innocent girl gunned down on her own front porch a few weeks ago. There were a lot of tears in the audience when this courageous mother spoke. My eyes were not dry either. |
