Thomas McDermott Jr has been mayor of Hammond now for 12 years....

And of Tom's accomplishments it is wonderful to know Hammond ranks just behind Gary in its crime statistics...

I wonder if Tom's going to get an award for this accomplishment?

On another note, and I usually don't deal with city employee's dabbling in extra marital affairs, but I get a call from someone way outside the region, asking me what's going on between a high ranking public safety official and someone in Tom's Office. Both married to other people, one with kids, the other....well, maybe that public safety person should be working at making the city a bit safer?

We are not hearing about most of the crimes. Listen to the police scanner online, and you will get an earful. There was a home invasion last week, on the 6400 block of Woodward, right by Maywood School. It happened about 10am. 2 allegedly Latino males busted the door down, tied up a pregnant woman, stole cash, her cell phone, and took her mini van.
As for the crime mapping, if people got a chance to see what was going on in Hammond, they would never set foot within the city lines. I have family who refuses to come here for a visit. They are afraid of getting carjacked or robbed.
