Tom McDermott went off on a tangent recently, complaining about a CEO's pay. He wimpered that it would take him 50 years to earn what the former CEO of NiSource earned in a year. He went on to inflate his own ego, mentioning the great responsibility of having 81K constituents. He feels his pay is too little commensurate with the awesome responsibility he shows up for occasionally. "I'm in the wrong business!" he says, straddling a line between genuine and jest. Yes, you are in the wrong business Tom. You'd be wise to downplay those sentiments Tom, but being wise is not you. Remember, you're in public service because you're an awful attorney. You're in public service to "do good". You're in public service to "help people". Never a good idea to let on that you're in it for the money. They say happiness is finding your passion and pursuing it, Tom. Now that you know that "you're in the wrong business", do yourself and us a favor and move on. Happiness awaits.
