First let me make this very clear, for the most part, I have great respect for HPD. They are overworked and understaffed
and more importantly, under paid. Bad apples appear every where in life, not saying the individuals involved in this incident are bad apples, hell we have Thomas McDermott Jr as Mayor.

Hammond has a terrible crime problem, and a police officer shortage. the shortage is not in administration, but boots on the street. This is documented by not only the numbers, but over $800,000 Hammond's Mayor Thomas McDermott Jr has spent on police overtime.

See Thomas has for years failed to replace retiring police personnel, only upon a contentious 2011 run for reelection did Tom make an utterance to hire, was it 20 cops? Were those cops ever hired? Well that is another story.

Now on to the second part of this preamble. I have great respect for Frank Mrvan, the township assessor.

The following info was received from another poster:

Quote:
Yesterday morning, a North Township Dial-A-Ride Van collided with a Hammond squad. According to witnesses, the squad was at fault. The squad, allegedly with no lights or siren, allegedly cut in front of the North Township van. The Township van had passengers on board, one of whom was substantially injured.

The injured person has a broken nose, broken out teeth, broken facial bones, a large gash on the forehead that took 10 stiches. Stitches in the nose, and is black and blue literally from head to toe. Her face is unrecognizable because of the swelling, and she cannot open an eye. Reportedly, the seat belt didn't hold. She is wheelchair bound, and is an amputee and blind. She was thrown out of her chair on impact. It appears the seat belt may have failed.

I have edited only the material appearing in red.

Let's have a comprehensive review of this incident, learning from it.

I hope all heal quickly

With the Holidays coming up, I am sure this makes it very trying for this person and their family. Prayers for healing.
