"There are people out there who are haters," Soderquist said.

Lake Station Mayor Keith Soderquiest seems to have a number of parallels to Mayor Thomas McDermott Jr. Soderquiest and his wife, once a close confidant of McDeermott, are fighting for their freedom. A slurry of federal agencies began an investigation which resulted in criminal indictments... the trial is going on as we speak. The feds have a 97% conviction rate.

Soderquist & his wife Deborah are on trail in the 7th District Court, accused of improperly taking $$$ from his campaign fund and the city's food pantry account, failing to record the money taken on federal tax returns, converting the funds for personal gambling use. http://www.nwitimes.com/news/local/lake/mayor-takes-stand-to-defend-self-wife/article_2d232f9a-0aef-51c7-b8f0-27121d8ca3d4.html

Soderquiest took the stand today, using one of Tom's lines, "There are people out there who are haters." A comment frequently attributed to the McDermott mafia. Unfortunately, in this case I don't think it is gonna work. Soderquiest, et al will, at least in my opinion, will be going to jail.

And speaking of jail, Mayor McDermott reportedly, AGAIN has the FBI buzzing around in his affairs........ McDermott, unlike Soderquist, likes to take frequent trips to Las Vegas...and from his Vegas adventures seems to be exceptionally lucky in bring bags of cash home.... of course reported as winnings, not bribes. Seems like McDermott has much better luck at gambling than Soderquist.

Something they both have in common, Mayor Thomas McDermott Jr been accused of converting campaign funds for personal use. Charges have been brought before the Lake County Election Board. The Board packed with political allies of Jr., some are believed to have received political favors from Jr., which is why some believe charges brought before the board never seem to go anywhere.

Favor you say? One such favor in particular is depositing $15,000,000 of tax funds deposited into a uninsured bank account. Such a deposit was sited by the SBA. Had the bank failed, which a number of them have during the era of this $15,000,000 deposit, the money would have been lost.

Now $15,000,000 packs a lot of political weight, especially at a time when bank margins may have been needed to be covered because of dwindling deposits.

As with a defense presented by a past Lake County Politician, Tom Philpot, trying to pay back the money, creating a no harm, no foul approach, apparently cost Philpot some of his freedom, a felony conviction and the loss of his medical and law license.

On Friday, September 11th, 2015, the Soderquiest lost their battle and are both now convicted felons.

The question presents itself, if the Soderquist were convicted, in part, using campaign money for personal use..... Hammond's Mayor Thomas McDermott Jr., has as well been accused of same. With the pending national elections, will a Republican President have the US Justice Department take a look at McDermott Jr, his associates and their related looting of NWI?

HAMMOND | Two alleged members of the Latin Counts street gang were charged last week in a shooting at Portside Pub that wounded two men, according to court records.

Chicago residents Felix I. Delgado, 24, and Maurilio "Rambo" Frausto, 27, face two counts of aggravated battery and four counts of battery. Delgado is additionally charged with three counts of attempted murder, attempted aggravated battery, two counts of battery and attempted battery.

Warrants for their arrests were issued last Friday.

Delgado and Frausto were seen on surveillance video on May 8 walking into Portside Pub located in the 1500 block of Indianapolis Boulevard in Hammond. They exchanged words with two other men at the bar before going into the bathroom.

Frausto then returned to speak to the two men while Delgado took a seat at a nearby bar stool. At one point, Delgado got up and reached for a handgun from his waist, according to the affidavit.

Frausto began punching one of the men in the face, which led to a fight in the bar, according to the affidavit. The video then showed Delgado pointing a gun at the two men while announcing his allegiance to the Latin Counts street gang and using a racial slur, according to court records.

Delgado then fired at the men who were less than 10 feet away from him, according to the affidavit. As Delgado and Frausto were leaving the bar, Delgado shot once again at one of the men who had managed to make it out of the bar.

The shooting left one man with injuries to his rib area, belly button, left hip, right neck area and shoulder, according to the affidavit. The other man who was shot had injuries to his stomach, chest, heart and liver.

Chicago police identified Frausto as being associated with the Latin Counts.

Women plead guilty to tampering with witness in Hammond gang case

HAMMOND | A woman and her daughter pleaded guilty Friday to tampering with a witness in a federal murder and racketeering case against their relative, U.S. District Court records show.

Dalia Guerrero, 39, of Merrillville, and her daughter, Jasmine McMichael, 22, of East Chicago, admitted they told a witness in a case against Anton L. James they knew where the witness lived and what the witness looks like.

The women were accused of making the threats and telling the witness to "recant" during a meeting outside Hammond High School on July 16, the day James was arrested.

James, Guerrero's son and McMichael's brother, was indicted in July on charges of murder in aid of racketeering and murder resulting from the use of a firearm during a crime of violence.

Guerrero and McMichael face a maximum of 20 years in prison and/or a $250,000 fine. The U.S. attorney's office agreed to recommend a minimum sentence in exchange for their pleas, court records show.

The plea deals are not binding on the court, and the women will not be allowed to withdraw their pleas if a judge doesn't follow the agreements, court records state.

James, 19, of Hammond, a reputed member of the Latin Kings, is accused of fatally shooting Martin Hurtado Sr. in October 2014. James thought he was shooting at Hurtado's son, Martin Hurtado Jr., court records state.

Hammond police Sgt. Michael Schmidt testified in December in Lake Criminal Court that Hurtado's homicide and other shootings were part of an ongoing dispute between the Latin Kings and the Latin Counts.

I have family that refuse to come to Hammond to visit with us, or my daughter and her family, because of the crime here. They are literally afraid to come here.

Jesus, it looks like a trifecta for Tom, 3 serious incidents with in a couple of days.

You think Tom's understaffed police department has sufficient manpower? Didn't Tom a few years ago months before an election promise to hire additional officers.

More retired, wanting out of Tom's Bull, including Tom's interfering with the Criminal Investigation of a close supporter's wife, involved in forging scrips with class 3 narcotics.

Tom's close supporter had to resign other wise someone was going to prosecute them....

HAMMOND | A woman told police she was kidnapped at gunpoint in Chicago, forced to withdraw money from several ATMs and left in Hammond early Friday, officials said.

The 32-year-old California woman told police she was in the 2400 block of North Fairfield Avenue in Chicago when she was approached by a young male and a young female around 11:10 p.m.

The male told the woman to get into his black sedan. When the woman refused, the man allegedly said, "Don't make me do this," and showed her what looked like the handle of a firearm, police said.

The female suspect also showed the victim what looked like a handgun and forced the California woman into the front seat of the vehicle.

The victim told police she was forced to go to several ATMs and told to withdraw money. When the card did not work at several locations, which the victim believes were in Chicago, the suspects drove the woman to Indiana via the expressway, police said.

Then we have another bomb shell dropping on Hammond & E. Chicago PD's

During a 7th District Federal Court Hearing, of a now convicted gun dealer, tied to three convicted Lake County Sheriff Officers, of which, Kumstar, one of the convicted officers revealed, someone in Hammond's PD authorized the sale of their automatic weapons.

Who authorized the sale of the weapons from the Hammond PD? Are they the same guns used to kill an innocent teen in mid Hammond earlier this year?

McDermott is the poster child for term limits....

Well, the State Board of Accounts Audit most recent audit reported $856,461 in Henry Unit expenditures adding another $597,000. http://www.in.gov/sboa/WebReports/B45293.pdf pg 32

Nearly $1.4 million in police overtime for an understaffed police department. Is this policy placing officers at risk? Not enough cops on the street.

And what about the recent disclosure, a Convicted Lake County Police Officer purchased weapons from the Hammond Police Department?

Were these weapons to be sold, should have been sold, obsolete?

Or is it sorta like city vehicles disappearing sold to a scrap yard and a few choice individuals putting the scrap value monies into their pocket?

Well, well, well the Honorable Mayor Thomas McDermott Jr received an 2016 City Livability award.....

Really, you call Hammond, it's crime, educational problems and physical conditions of the city award able?

Or is it there still is some money to milk from the city coffers/taxpayers?

They apparently missed some of the photo's in this thread.

Quote:
The city of Hammond has been awarded a "2016 City Livability" award for its College Bound program by the U.S. Conference of Mayors at its annual conference in Indianapolis, marking the second time the program has snagged the prestigious honor.

Funny, it wasn't even Tom's idea. It was the idea of an fired Attorney.
