The ceaseless killings on the streets and in the abandoned properties of Gary Indiana was a subject brought up by a caller to The Committee To Elect Tom McDermott radio show today. More than one caller questioned the actions or non action of Gary Mayor Freeman-Wilson. Tom McDermott defended her, naming bad upbringing and other clichés as the cause of the deadly violence, and absolving her of any responsibility. "What's a mayor supposed to do?", he asks. But in his next breath he attacked the Governor as uncaring. As McDermott used the dead bodies of homicide victims as a political pulpit to attack Mike Pence, he had the nerve to say someone else doesn't care? Locals bear no responsibility, but downstate Republicans do? The tiresome attribution of our local problems as somehow being foisted on us by Indianapolis is getting old. So is McDermott, but he's not growing up at all.

There has been an increase in shootings in Hammond, and other assaults. It definitely is not the governors fault. The buck stops at the mayors office.

A day or two ago, there was a Times article in which Hizzoner schooled LC residents on what a coup it is to have a ((n) affirmative action) Harvard-educated lawyer running Gary for the bargain-basement salary of $142,000 per annum. No mention of the daily shootings or police department attrition. Not surprisingly, that plays well to the Gary dolts hunkered down in their bathtubs what the gats are pulled.

How we forget, during the last election cycle, Hammond's Honorable (tongue in cheek) Mayor Thomas McDermott Jr had, for the six previous years, failed to replace retiring police officers.... part of the his 2009 re-election platform made commitment to hire 10 police officers.

Tom banks on people forgetting how understaffed the police department is/was with over $800,000 of tax dollars spent, last year alone, on Henry unit overtime.

The HPD is currently understaffed, yet valuable police resource are dispatched to patrol an interstate highway, while the Hammond murder rate increases.

No doubt, McDermott has blood on his hands.

Maybe a rapper or two might moralize McDermott & crew in a rap tune.
