HAMMOND | Chief Fire Inspector Michael Opinker said investigators are frustrated by the lack of cooperation in the neighborhood hit by five arsons since Easter.

Opinker and EMT Bernie Grisolia joined their colleagues in handing out fliers Friday morning in the neighborhood, west of downtown, hit by the arson, asking for the public's help in their investigation.

"We've knocked on every door, there are cars on the street and lights on and not a single person came to the door," Opinker said.

Opinker said on most fire scenes, neighbors come out of their homes with an interest in what is happening. In all five of the recent fires, all of the neighbors stayed indoors and have stayed silent.

"It's really frustrating," he said.
