Some History:

Compared to other cities and towns in the region, Portage is quite young:  a town in 1958 and then a city in 1968.

Visit the Countryside Museum which celebrates the history of Portage Township.  The museum, located at 5250 East US Highway 6, is housed in a turn-of-the-century farmhouse and is operated by the Portage Community Historical Society.  (219) 762-8349
